Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge.
OCIN Events are held rain, shine or snow.     In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

Sat Feb 18, 2017     TROL #11, Miami University Ecology Research Center, Oxford, OH
    A full range of courses: white 2.2 km; yellow 4.0 km; orange 5.4 km; brown 4.1 km; green 6.2 km; red 8.1 km. Starts are open from 11 am to 1 pm. We will use Miami University Natural Areas, but the start will be at the Miami Ecology Research Center (ERC) on Somerville Rd. There will be indoor restrooms. The ERC has expanded and added some new trails and structures since we last used this part of the map. Director Mike Minium.
    Fee: regular OCIN rates: $7 for members, $10 for non-members; $2 discount if you own your own SI timing card, free for 2016-17 TROL Season pass holders.
    Locator Map start location at the Miami University Ecology Research Center, 5806 Somerville Rd From Oxford, take Ohio Route 732 north. After passing the stadium on the right and crossing the bridge over Four Mile Creek, take the first right on Somerville Rd. After the top of the hill, watch for hidden right turn into Miami University Ecology Research Center. If the parking lot is full, park along the cinder road, but be careful about getting onto the grass - the ground will be soft.

    Locator Map From Cincinnati, take I-74 west into Indiana and take exit 169, US 52 west. Follow 52 through brookville, then keep right on IN 101 north. Climb the long hill, and after 3 miles or so on the flat plateau, turn left to Garr Hill Boat Ramp (Pea Ridge Rd goes to the right).

    National Teams Only

Mar 10, 2017     Lakota East HS, West Chester OH
    Friday evening. Free! There is no fee for this event! This is Lakota's annual Pi Day activity, with many displays and activities related to science, technology, engineering, and math, open to all ages. OCIN will partner with MetroParks of Butler county and offer both a short indoor course, and a longer outdoor course on the school grounds. Bring a flashlight or headlamp for the outdoor course!

March 11-12, 2017    Quantico Junior Training Camp
    Weekend intense training camp for junior orienteers (but open to all ages) at Prince William Forest National Park adjacent to Quantico Marine Base in northern Virginia (just outside Washington DC)
    event information on Attackpoint There will be two training sessions and a night course on Saturday, and 2 training sessions on Sunday. Cabin space and meals will be included.

    U.S. Trail-O Champs, U.S. Relay Champs, and Middle Distance National Meet. (hosted by Los Angeles Orienteering Club - LAOC) Local event on Tuesday, Mar 21 at famous Vasquez Rocks Park (Spectacular rock formations were the filming site for alien planet scenes in several Star Trek episodes, and various other movies and shows).

    O' In The Oaks National Meet (hosted by Bay Area Orienteering Club - BAOC). Richmond, California. BAOC will also host mid-week training meets on Mar 22-24 at Morgan Territory, Livermore CA.

April 7-9, 2017     Flying Pig XXI, Columbus, Indiana
    The 21st edition of OCIN's annual Flying Pig. South central Indiana.
    Friday: competitor's choice of late afternoon middle distance race or after dark U.S. Night Course Championship, Eagle Creek East, Indianapolis.
    Saturday: early afternoon starts for long distance courses at Yellowwood State Forest, Belmont, Indiana
    Sunday morning: 2-stage sprint in Columbus Indiana. First race will be through the downtown area, the second will be in riverfront parkland.

    program intended mainly for home school students and public school students in home study programs. Tentatively May 10 at Madeline Bertrand County Park, May 17 at Ferrettie Baugo County Park (new map), May 24 at St Patrick's County Park.

    6 days of orienteering races in varied terrain, typically has around 4000 competitors.

August 3-6     U.S. ARDF Championships, Cincinnati
    OCIN and the OH-KY-IN Amateur Radio Club will host the national ARDF (Amateur Radio Direction Finding) Championships. Four days of competitive events will be preceeded by several days of training / practice events during the week before.

    tentatively at Whippoorwill or Stonybrook, tentatively will include a regular OCIN meet on Saturday, with courses from white to red.

Nov 25-26, 2017     OCIN TROL training day and TROL meet
    tentatively at Miami University. All-day training program on Saturday with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, geared primarily toward youth, but open to all. Sunday will be a regular competition with a range of courses from white to red.
