Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge.
OCIN Events are held rain, shine or snow.     In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

    Introduction to Orienteering Class (9 am - Noon) including on-trail courses. Off trail travel will not be permitted but we'll still plan a course to provide route choice to intermediate and advanced orienteers.
    A joint program with Cincinnati Nature Center. Event Director: Mike Minium Cincinnati Nature Center is a private facility. Pets are permitted in most areas, but must be on leash.
    To register for the beginner class, visit Cincinnati Nature Center Website, click on the calendar, select the orienteering class, and follow the registration instructions. The cost is $5 for OCIN and CNC members, $13 for those who are not members of either organization.
    To just do an orienteering course, email Mike Minium to let me know you are coming. Then show up at CNC between 10 am and 11 am. If you are not a CNC member, you will need to pay $5 per person admission to enter the property. But, the course fee will only be $2 per map. SI timing will be used. Courses will be "short", "medium", and "long", tentatively around 2-3, 3-5, and 5-7 km. You must stay on trails and roads, but the CNC has a complex trail network, so you will have to be alert and make route choice decisions.
    Public is welcome at ALL OCIN events. Directions: Exit I-275 at exit 59 (59B from the south) to US 50 EAST (not Milford Pkwy). At end of very long ramp (Ohio route 450), turn RIGHT on US 50. Go 1.9 miles and turn RIGHT on Round Bottom Rd. Go 0.4 miles and turn LEFT on Tealtown Rd. Go 0.7 miles and turn RIGHT into Cincinnati Nature Center's Rowe Woods. Class and Start will be at the Visitor Center.As you drive into Rowe Woods, after the entrance gate, the road splits and you'll see a sign for visitor center parking to the left. From the end of the lot, walk straight ahead to the visitor center. Once inside, turn immediately right and left to the auditorium.

June 3-8, 2012     Texas Junior Orienteering Camp
    Six days of intense orienteering and physical training for juniors age 13-17. Selective admission by application only. Application deadline: postmark by April 28. Camp Sid Richardson, north of Ft. Worth. cost $150. OCIN grant available for all TROL members who earned more than 4000 points in middle or high school divisions this season.

    TROL Training Camp with classroom instruction, outdoor activities and practice event. Plan is for morning to be geared towards beginners, with afternoon geared toward intermediate/advanced skills and activities. Lunch (sandwiches) and dinner (pizza) are included.
    Pre-registration will be required.
    We recommend bringing at least 2 pairs of shoes (an indoor classroom pair and an outdoor orienteering pair), several changes of socks, rain gear, and at least one full change of clothes and a towel.
