After a thorough drenching on Friday and
overnight storms, Saturday dawned with some sunshine and comfortable
temperatures, but April Fool’s Day soon had other plans for us as winds
increased to gale force, and temperatures plummeted. More than once, registration papers and maps
were chased across the parking lot and soccer fields, and some were probably
never caught. Even relatively heavy
objects sometimes were blown off tables.
Registration and download attempted to find shelter in the lee of
vehicles, but the wind swirled and eddied into every cranny.
Trails were muddy, slopes were slippery,
and honeysuckle growth was surging. But
orienteers were generally up for the challenges posed by weather and vegetation
and course setter! Kids of all ages
enjoyed finding eggs along the white course, probably almost as much as they
enjoyed the candy or toy that they claimed for reward when they finished. We hope to see many of them back in the
future!
