Orienteering Cincinnati Events

Public is welcome at all events, unless specifically noted in the announcement. Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge. OCIN Events are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

Sunday, August 14, 2022     QCARS 8 - Sawyer Point
    QCARS 8, Sawyer Point, Starts to be announced 2 short courses are offered at each QCARS event. Regular QCARS start times 10-11:30. There is an afternoon Cincinnati Reds game, so parking options may be limited and most lots will have Game Day pricing (you might beat it if you are early). There is free parking along East Pete Rose Way from about I-471 continuing east past the mOntgomery Inn Boathouse
    Online pre-registration for this event is open. Purchase a QCARS season pass! Season pass (includes all QCARS events, plus bonus events) is just $30 for OCIN members and $45 for non-members! Entry to individual QCARS events is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. Your best 3 QCARS events count for season awards.
    Look for the start and check-in in the area between the Procter and Gamble Pavilion and the Cincinnatus Statue under the Purple People Bridge
    QCARS Season Awards will follow the orienteering. The OCIN Annual Meeting and Election will follow awards, at the Hoffbrauhaus just across the river in Newport, KY (walk across the Purple People Bridge or drive to Newport).

Sat, Aug 27, 2022     St Patrick's Park, South Bend, IN
    OCIN's northern Indiana chapter organizes this annual event. This will have several short courses, in a 2-person relay format (Hokum Karem) with a mass start at 10:00 am from the Fragomeni Shelter. Teams: Male, Female, Mixed.

Sat, September 10, 2022     East Fork, Indian Mound Shelter
    Full range of courses from white thru red, for all ages. This event will include a special competition for JROTC cadets. Starts are open from 10 am to 1 pm. Control pickup begins at 3 pm. Pre-registration (opening soon) is required. If you have an Orienteering USA account, it will auto-fill your information; if not, select "enter data manually". School groups, JROTC teams, and large scout troops should contact Mike Minium for a spreadsheet entry form. Registration closes at 11:59 pm, Thursday, September 8. Please help us be ready by not waiting to the last minute to register.

October 2022   South American Orienteering Championships, Foz do Iguacu, Brazil
    near spectacular Iguasu Falls near the Brazil / Argentina / Paraguay border. event website (Portuguese) Preliminary plans call for a Sprint/Middle/Long format in 3 countries, with the Sprint in Parguay, Middle in Brazil, and Long in Argentina.

late October 2022     MetroParks of Butler County
    OCIN's annual Halloween Orienteering Courses in cooperation with MetroParks of Butler County. Range of courses, suitable for all ages. We are offering white (beginner), yellow (intermediate), orange (advanced), green (expert) courses for this event. Locations and details coming soon.
    We will also offer the Trail of Treats: a short, easy course for kids, with a choice of candy or a toy at the finish. Trail of Treats course is $4 per child; regular OCIN fees ($10 members, $15 non-members) for the other courses.

Sat, Nov 5, 2022     Twisted Run V, Centennial Park, Plymouth, Indiana
    OCIN's South Bend chapter brings back the annual Twisted Run. Easy (white to yellow level difficulty) navigation (long 6.4 km and short 3.7 km versions) with a mass start at 11 am. A few navigation decisions will give navigators the chance to outsmart the speedsters. Mass start at 11 am.
    This will be a fundraiser for the Orienteering USA Junior National Team, with all proceeds going to the national team.
    Pre-registration price is $25 for adults age 19+; $15 for kids 13-18, $5 for kids 7-12, and free for kids 6 and under.
    Park entry or vehicle permit fees: none. Restroom facilities:unheated indoor. Event center: outdoors, open-sided shelter building.

    Public Starts will be open from 11:30 am to 1 pm. Full range of courses for all ages. Courses: white easy; yellow intermediate; orange advanced, brown short expert, green expert; red long expert.
    Park entry or vehicle permit fees: none. Restroom facilities: portable toilet. Special note: This is a girl scout camp (privately owned); no dogs please.

January 13-16, 2023   Georgia Navigator Cup, FDR State Park, Georgia
    MLK weekend. Middle distance race on Friday, two classic races on Sat and Sun, and Extreme-O on Monday. Saturday and Sunday will be the 2023 Orienteering USA Junior Nationals. Entry information coming soon.
   

February, 2023   Southwest Spring Week, Tucson and Phoenix AZ
    includes Presidents Day weekend. More details soon.

March 24-26, 2023     OCIN Flying Pig XXV / 2023 Orienteering USA Nationals
    2023 OUSA Nationals (Middle, Long, Sprint) Middle and Long will be at Carter Caves State Park in eastern Kentucky, sprint venue is still tbd. Separate individual awards for each race; US Champion medals to eligible finishers.

    tentative public event with a full range of courses, plus training programs for girl scouts and leaders. (Purchase your QCARS summer season pass now for free entry to the public courses at this event and all QCARS series events).

2023   World Masters Orienteering Championship, Slovakia
    POSTPONED from 2020 to 2023 open competiton for orienteers age 35 and over. pre-registration required. event website

August, 2023   California Orienteering Festival, USA
    North American Champs and World Rogaine Champs postponed to 2023.. Two week long festival of orienteering events, beginning in the Bay Area and ending in the Sierras near the Nevada border. includes the North American Championships and World Rogaining Championship.

April 5-8, 2024     OCIN Flying Pig XXVI
    Orienteering races Friday April 5 through Sunday April 7, presented in partnership with Indiana Crossroads Orienteering (ICO)
