Orienteering Cincinnati Events

Public is welcome at all events, unless specifically noted in the announcement. Beginners are always welcome and basic instruction is offered at no charge. OCIN Events are held rain, shine, or snow. In the event of severe storm or snow emergency, check this site on the morning of event.

March 24-26, 2023     OCIN Flying Pig XXV
2023 Orienteering USA Nationals
    2023 OUSA Nationals (Sprint, Long, Middle) Sprint Course will be at Morehead State University. The Long and Middle Courses will be at Carter Caves State Park in eastern Kentucky.
    Separate individual awards for each race; US Champion medals to eligible finishers.

    Embargoed terrain: (closed to all orienteering or visits to gain knowledge of the terrain).
          1. Carter Caves State Park and all parts of Tygarts State Forest, except for paved park roads to the lodge, cottages, and campground, and the access to Cascade Caverns outside of the main park entrance.
          2. Morehead State University.
    The Friday evening dinner will feature Worldwalker Steven M. Newman, the first person to hike solo around the world. Steve and his wife regularly orienteer with OCIN as well!
    Lodging: The park has very nice lodge rooms and modern cottages.(sold out). Call the park at (606) 286-4411. You must use the reservation code 3835 in order to book a room or cottage.

Saturday, April 1, 2023     Rentschler Forest MetroPark, Line Hill Mound
    OCIN local event with MetroParks of Butler County. Pre-registration link coming soon. Entry fee is $10 for members or $15 for non-members. There will be a range of courses (white thru red) for all ages, plus Special kids Egg Hunt course (kids use a detailed map to find plastic eggs. When they finish, they can exchange the eggs for candy or a toy). $4 per child, $10 family maximum, parent or older sibling may accompany younger children at no charge.
    Special note - for anybody who would like to try radio orienteering, Bob Frey will be setting out 3 to 5 transmitters and will have loaner receivers for you to try out.

    Line Hill Mound entrance to Rentschler Forest MetroPark. From Route 4, turn north on Rentschler Estates, then left into parking area. This is NOT off Reigart Rd.

    annual national meet in rugged terrain around West Point NY, organized by the U.S. Military Academy Orienteering Team.

    organized by the New England Orienteering Club.

    Public event with a full range of courses, plus training programs for girl scouts and leaders. (Purchase your QCARS summer season pass now for free entry to the public courses at this event and all QCARS series events).
    Public courses start from 11 to 1. Range of courses from white thru red.

    Queen City Adventure Running Series (QCARS) is a series of short summer orienteering events, featuring 2 short, fast, and fun courses more open park land and campus areas. Season pass (includes all QCARS events, plus bonus events) is just $30 for OCIN members and $45 for non-members! Entry to individual QCARS events is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. Your best 3 QCARS events count for season awards.
    Summer QCARS Season Pass information is coming soon.
    Tentative QCARS 2023 event dates: May 20, June 11, June 24, July 8, July 22, July 30, August 5, August 19. .

    organized by Miami Valley Orienteering Club (MVOC). Starts 12-2, range of courses. No pre-registration, but you are encouraged to print an entry form from the MVOC website and have it filled out before you arrive. See MVOC website for more details

Monday (Memorial Day), May 29, 2023     Liberty Quest IV, Liberty, IN
    Urban Score-style course through the town of Liberty.   Find as many control points as you can in any order.   At each control point, you will find the answer to a history or trivia question to record on your score-card.   You get points for each correct answer.   But you will rapidly lose points if you go over the 2 hour time limit, so it is better to get back ON TIME even if you haven't found every point.

June 4-9, 2023   Texas Junior Orienteering Camp, Bridgeport, Texas
    week-long intense orienteering camp for youth who are successfully completing courses at yellow level and above, first week of June.
   

2023   World Masters Orienteering Championship, Slovakia
    POSTPONED from 2020 to 2023 open competiton for orienteers age 35 and over. pre-registration required. event website

August, 2023   California Orienteering Festival, USA
    North American Champs and World Rogaine Champs postponed to 2023.. Two week long festival of orienteering events, beginning in the Bay Area and ending in the Sierras near the Nevada border. includes the North American Championships and World Rogaining Championship.

Sat, September 9, 2023     East Fork, Indian Mound Shelter
    (park permit pending) Full range of courses from white thru red, for all ages. This event will include a special competition for JROTC cadets. (Co-sponsored by Live Oaks JROTC). Starts are open from 10 am to 1 pm. Control pickup begins at 3 pm. Pre-registration for orienteering members and public is required (link coming soon). If you have an Orienteering USA account, it will auto-fill your information; if not, select "enter data manually".   School groups, JROTC teams, and large scout troops should contact Mike Minium for a spreadsheet entry form and should turn it in by Wednesday, September 7. Registration closes at 11:59 pm, Thursday, September 8. Please help us be ready by not waiting to the last minute to register. This event is included in our 2022-23 TROL/WARS season pass, so entry is FREE if you purchase a TROL or WARS season pass.

Sat, Nov 11, 2023     TROL / WARS Series #1, Camp Butterworth, Maineville, Ohio
    Purchase a TROL /WARS 2023-2024 season pass for free entry to all TROL/ WARS series events (link coming soon). Entry fee for individual TROL / WARS events is $10 for members or $15 for non-members.
    Pre-registration is required (link comingh soon) even if you have a TROL or WARS season pass. Please help us by pre-registering early. Registration closes at 8 pm. on Friday, Nov. 12.
    There will also be special Introduction to Orienteering programs offered for girl scouts and leaders (link coming soon).
    Starts will be open from 11 am to 1 pm. Full range of courses for all ages. Courses: white easy; yellow intermediate; orange advanced, brown short expert, green expert; red long expert.
    Park entry or vehicle permit fees: none. Restroom facilities: modern indoors. Event Center: indoors but minimally heated building. Special note: This is a girl scout camp (privately owned); no dogs please.
